The Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) is in the early stages of testing software that will improve building and property information. SwiftGov promises to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) into the County’s GIS (Geographic Information System) system to assist staff and residents with countywide parcel research.
Sabrina Dugan of Swiftbuild.ai provided a short demonstration of Swiftgov, showing comprehensive information such as zoning and land use, land development regulations, future land use, FEMA flood elevations, maximum building height, and even chicken regulations. Results will also link to other resources, such as Municode for specific code and ordinance lookup. (library.municode.com/fl/hernando_county)
According to Commissioner Brian Hawkins, the cost of the new technology is expected to be offset by the number of software licenses Swiftgov will replace, resulting in a net positive of $40,000 to $50,000 per year.
Development Services Director Omar DePablo emphasized that the purpose of the AI platform is to return information faster, and will not be capable of making decisions. The scope of the software is to assemble information currently contained in only the county’s systems, a process called “Narrow AI,” protecting private information, and also preventing data from leaking outside the county.
The system will be available for County staff and Commissioners to begin testing in the near future.
